Zelindo l’Afrosia is a fictional character that “vanished” while in police custody.
Officers reported arresting a young African-American shirtless man riding a bicycle in [gentrifying] Crown Heights, Brooklyn.

As L’Afrosia rode up onto the sidewalk, and dismounted to enter the corner bodega, officers detained him, informing him that it was illegal to ride a bike on the sidewalk. While searching his pockets, they found a small bag of cannabis. He was arrested and taken to the precinct.

Right before he was fingerprinted, officers say Zelindo inexplicably “vanished.”
All that remained were abstract poems penned on a paper bag.
